Gold Mountain to host NCAA West Regionals
College golf teams up and down the West Coast are heading into the key stretch of their season, hoping they can land a spot in the NCAA West Regionals to be held May 15-17 at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton.

Oregon State is the top-ranked team in the Northwest. The Beavers are ranked No. 42 nationally in the latest rankings by Golfweek magazine.

Whether the Beavers, or Oregon, or Washington, or Washington State, for that matter, are going to be playing at Gold Mountain will be determined when the NCAA announces its selections in early May.

Out of those 27 teams and six individuals competing at Gold Mountain, the top 10 teams and the top two individuals not on one of those 10 teams will advance to the NCAA Championships to be held May 28-31 at Purdue University.

Two area freshmen are off to impressive starts this spring for their teams. Pepperdine’s Andrew Putnam, from University Place, is ranked 22nd in the country by Golfweek. Pacific’s T.J. Bordeaux, from Tacoma, won the Duck Invitational near Eugene, Ore., recently by a convincing five strokes.
