Golf courses on and around the Kitsap Peninsula are some of the best found in the state
Washington’s Kitsap Peninsula has stockpile of some of the top public golf courses in the state. From Gold Mountain’s award winning Olympic Course, to the newest addition: WhiteHorse Golf Club. The attraction to out of the area golfers has grown so big that some of the courses have banded together to offer stay and play packages. The idea has paid dividends. Gold Mountain, Trophy Lake and McCormick Woods along with the Silverdale Beach Hotel, have joined forces to offer traveling golfers a place to stay on their golf trip.
“It’s been a great success so far,” said Shawn Cuccardi of McCormick Woods. “It’s worked for everyone. And especially this year, we really have some good groups coming in.”
There are some great choices. Gold Mountain has a pair of outstanding courses, including its award-winning Olympic Course where many big-time tournaments have been played. McCormick Woods, in Port Orchard, has been ranked among the top courses in the state for years and is just a quick drive from another award-winner Trophy Lake Golf and Casting.
You can’t go wrong with any of these. The three are among the most popular courses in the Pacific Northwest and with the new stay and play packages, tourists from as away as Canada are now finding out the little secret on the Kitsap Peninsula.
But there are more. The new White Horse Golf Club in Kingston opened last year and offers another challenging options for golfers. Located a short ferry ride from Seattle via Edmonds or Bainbridge Island, it has proven to be a popular place to play.
Horseshoe Lake in Port Orchard has been around since 1992 and presents two completely different looking nines. This is a riding course, especially the back nine. If you like tight driving holes, elevated tees and greens, then you will enjoy this golf course.
Other courses that are worth taking a look at include Rolling Hills in Bremerton, a popular older course and Village Greens, executive course in Port Orchard that will, for sure, test your short game. Closer to Tacoma, in Gig Harbor, there is Madrona Links, an older design that has proven to withstand the test of time, as it is always busy. It is also proof that it doesn’t have to be long to be good. Also in Gig Harbor is Gig Harbor Country Club, a semiprivate 9-hole course that presents an interesting mix of holes and is not recommended as a walking course unless you’re under 30.
