The developers of the new Half Moon Bay golf development in Westport, Wash. have partnered with out of state developers in the purchase of the Highland Golf Course in the Grays Harbor County town of Cosmopolis. The course had been owned for 54 years by the Strada family.
Cosi Holdings, LLC, purchased the course after a year and a half of negotiations to close the deal with the Stradas. Lanco LLC will be the development manager of an upgraded golf course that will expand the Highland course onto adjoining property. The project will feature an 18-hole golf course and housing development, said Brook Maples, of Lanco LLC.
Westport Investments LLC, which runs the Half Moon Bay Bar and Grill, has been operating the Highlands using the same rate and fee structure as well as the same staff, including Superintendent Brian Strada, since October 2007. Their goal will be to create more excitement about golf throughout the community and an increased level of service to all levels of golfers.
The Strada family had owned the course for 54 years and Karon Strada said it was a tough decision to sell but she said, “unfortunately, circumstances change and it was the right decision for our family to move on.” Her late husband Mike had run the golf course doing everything from work in the front office to maintenance on the golf course itself.
There was no announcement about how much was paid for the course.
Highland Golf Course in Cosmopolis opened as a nine-hole course but added nine more holes in 1994 to give the course an entire 18-hole, hilly and challenging layout.
